it never fails
every week, there exists something that I refer to as: The Weekly Sabotage! What could this possibly be...a lot of forgetfulness, murphy's law, the Devil himself?! I am not sure. My observation is that once a week, something is going to go wrong or be out of place just in time for Sunday morning worship service. Usually it is some technical issue...but it isn't usually a malfunction, it almost always seems to be human error...except for the fact that I never catch the human in the action. So it is my firm belief that this weekly technical chaos is the result of a small outfit whose mission in life is to sabotage our worship service somehow. Don't believe me?

**One sunday morning our projector wouldn't turn on...the remote receiver had been unplugged. The thing is that it had only been partially unplugged so that it would look like it was just fine. It could have just come loose, but the truth is that it is located in a place that is out of the way, and has nothing else of importance located around it. In fact, if you didn't know what it was, you couldn't guess...my conclusion...sabotage.

**For several weeks, our projector seemed to be shaking slightly...all of our still images looked like we were getting bad reception from the local UHF station. When I examined our video mixer a little more closely, someone had put on an effect that was some kind of weird video interlace that caused the projected images to be vibrating. Accident? It took me 5 minutes to turn it off, I doubt anyone bumped a button on accident. Almost nobody knows how to actually work our video board...but the ones who do could do major harm. My conclusion...sabotage.

**There are countless other stories about monitor mixes mysteriously changing between rehersal and the actual service, computers magically crashing, missing media shout cues, bad mic cables, changed address on DMX lighting, and stolen DVD players (David Merhle). I could write a lot more, but in order to keep this post from being too boring, you'll have to take my word for it...there are people out there who do not like technology. In a sick and twisted way, they've decided to stand up to this technology by hiding in the shadows. However, their attempts to thwart the goals of our worship services have proved futile and annoying at best because they cannot contain vast knowledge and hands on tech skills of the HSM worship staff. So if any of you who frequent this blog are guilty of such crimes...may death find you swiftly and take you quietly in the night. Amen.
