a summary of the end.
-my day off was pretty good...although I can't remember what I did.
-friday, I went to guitar center and tried out the new Taylor T-5. With this instrument, I could replace my electric and accoustic guitar and life would be simpler. Unfortuantely, you can't pick one up for under two grand...unless you are psycho lucky like Jared Baker and just win one. i'm still kind of mad about that. Whenever you have a friend or close relative that wins something, you are more disappointed, because you feel like you almost won. I am happy for him, but i am bummed it wasn't me.
-i had quite a bit hanging over me so I decided to go to work on Saturday. I had to finish writing a sermon. I was examining a couple of verses where Jesus talks about being in the light, or being light. My sermon was about doing good. I mentioned that Christians often talk about who's "in or out" as it concerns salvation, but we rarely talk about who's "in or out" as it concerns good deeds. I was at work until almost 1am setting up for my last day at church.
-Sunday, I woke up late. I got to church and we got started with band practice. Everything on that end went well. The band played awesome...John was playing a big yellow bass. He had to fill in for the student who showed up an hour late to practice claiming he didn't think it was that important for him to be there. That yellow bass is simultaneously awesome and sucky at the same time. The sermon went okay, but i don't really like preaching and leading worship in the same service...i feel like I'm the host and star of the Tyler Show. God forgive me. At the end of the service, Ben Merold presented me with a card and a VERY generous gift (a gift card to Best Buy). I already know what I'll get with it. I'll have a photo to share very soon. Also, David gave me a photo album and a few cards signed by nearly every student who was at church that day. It was cool. I looked through the photo album and it is very special to me. I am assuming that Becky put it together. Thanks. Julie came to the service and I couldn't appreciate it more. It was the first time that she's seen me do what I do. Ironically, it was the last time I'd do it (at least for now). Later that evening, it took me several hours to pack up my office. It only took that long because John and I just started screwing around with all the toys I was packing up. We had a good time shooting the blowgun into the bookshelf. Later that evening, I met some students at Buffalo Wild wings and two of them tried the "Blazin' Challenge" and failed. This is what you must do: eat 12 'Blazin' wings in 6 minutes, bones picked clean, nothing to drink. All you win is a button and your meal is free. One guy only ate 10, the other picked his bones clean but still had a mouthful of chicken when the manager said 'time.' The were both sweating.
-late Sunday night, I picked up Julie on my bike. When we were about 5 miles from home it started raining and we got stuck under an overpass. john came and picked us up. Pictures soon.
