A LITTLE AWKWARD
Yesterday my dad and I went to a Mexican restaurant called Cancun. It's not too bad. I give it a 6 out of 10. Anyways, as it is with "ethnic" eating establishments, the employees were in fact Mexican or some kind of Latin persuasion. In these situations it is typically difficult to understand what they are saying to you because of their thick accents, but we ordered our food without much difficluty and our waiter was surprisingly nice and patient with us. I say surprisingly because at a different Mexican place that we frequent our usual waitress is extremely rude and you never really know if she understands a word you say.
The music in this place is terrible. It is the typical Mexican tune (complete with trumpets and and tubas) that you'd expect in a place selling "authenticity." However it may be authentic, it grinds on my nerves. So trying to take my mind off of that I look up at the tv that's mounted on the ceiling directly in front of me. What I expect to see is either a mexican talk show with a host that seems completely insane and everyone talking so fast i'm not sure the Mexicans understand what's going on OR maybe a movie like Braveheart dubed in Mexican with subtitles in English. Wrong on both expectations. What i see is COPS. I haven't watched this show since my days in high school, I imagine. I only caught about 2 minutes of the show. Luckily for me it was the climax of that particular run. A white police officer complete with a mustache and army issue buzz cut enters a house and kicks in what seems like a bathroom door. Surprise surprise, there is someone trying to block the door. So the cop keeps pushing on it. OUT OF THE BATHROOM comes the woman/wife and of course she's in some kind of robe and her face is blurred. The cop finally gets the door open and who is behind it? A mexican. I suddenly feel a little uncomfortable. Then this cop who can't get the suspect to cooperate takes out his baton and starts beating this man into submission. Ugh. I would have liked to leave at that very moment.
I stopped watching the show and tried to enjoy my chimichanga. The whole time I'm wondering if they are watching the same program back in the kitchen. And i'm feeling a little sick today...must have been something I ate.
just kidding (about the feeling sick part).
