What's so Super about it?
last night I watched the Super Bowl. It was a pretty good game. If you like the Patriots, you are pleased to see that your team is now being coupled with the term 'dynasty.' Although that get's annoying really quick. If you like the Eagles, you are probably really disappointed with your team and the quarterback who never seemed to get it together...seriously, as much time as that man had in the pocket, he should have been dominating. And I know almost nothing about football! But if you are like me, and don't watch much football, and didn't really care who won, you may have been left with a sour taste in your mouth. Here's why I am considering the Super Bowl sub-par this year (and why I don't get too excited about football).
1. McNabb was crap. I know he must be really good, but he didn't show it last night. 3 interceptions and lots of thrown balls that for all intensive purposes were thrown to nobody. Even his own receivers seemed confused by some of the stuff he threw. I expected a little better performance from him.
2. Tom Brady is boring. That's right, he's about the least fun player out on the field. This has nothing to do with celebrating and everything to do with his passing game. He probably doesn't call the shots, he isn't the offensive coordinator, but how many 2 yard passes can I stand? not many. This is a team who is boring to watch. Offensively, there seems to be no spark or energy or no momentum mostly because all I see them do is throw tiny little screen passes all the way down the field...sure, you won the game, but i was less than entertained. I want an offense that's fun...like the colts.'
3. The commercials are better than the game. For entertainment value, a live football game simply cannot compete with the quality of today's comercials. The game is the game, but the commercials are well prepared, contain story, are often hillarious, and are designed to appeal to me and entertain me, and to sell something to me. I will never buy their product, but I'll remember godaddy.com and career builders.com because of their commercials. Now, if I were at the game in person, i would feel differently.
4. I hate to see guys celebrate and carry on for no good reason. For instance, a guy makes a tackle and flaps his arms like a bird. What a loser. Isn't that what he's supposed to do?...tackle the guy with the ball. There are too many guys who show off after every single play. Geez! It is definately a "look at what I did" kind of sport...that's annoying. What if, in baseball, every time the pitcher threw a strike he pointed out to the audience and did a little dance?
5. Football is only for American rednecks. After the game was over, the owner of the patriots was talking about winning the superbowl 3 times in 4 years and then said that it is all about the competition and that the Super Bowl is the highest level of competition. Huh?! did i miss something? Since when did that happen? Maybe this guy should tune in once every 2 years to something called the Olympics. Or maybe he's never heard of the Tour de France. Guess they don't air the World Cup in New England. C'mon man! It's those kinds of comments that keep me from taking this game very seriously. God bless american football!
