golf tournament...
yesterday, John and I were in a discussion about the church's charity golf tournament. We were thinking about what 2 lucky gentlemen could join us in the 18-hole scramble. We had one of our teammates cancel on us. However, with the tournament date quickly approaching, we had to register our team anyways. Well, you can't have only two people for a team, so we just decided to insert two names so it would appear that we had a full team:
Bill Brasky, and Ted Dibiase
Both of these names are jokes. Bill Brasky a name from a SNL skit. Actually, when I think about it, I can't even remember what that skit was about...I don't even think it was funny. But I'll never forget that name, because whenever there is a toast and there is nothing to toast about, someone will undoubtedly yell, "To Bill Brasky!" Ted Dibiase is a retired professional wrestler nicknamed the Million Dollar Man. When I lived in the dorm at LCC, "Ted Dibiase" ended up on every sign-up sheet ever put in our dorm. Nothing was sacred. Old Ted would be signed up for everything from Bible studies to 'lumberjack day.'
Yesterday afternoon, Todd came in the office to get a key for the bus/shuttle. He's already got his team for the golf tournament, and his team has won the tournament a couple of times in the past. John and I were still laughing at our pretend golf team and told Todd that Ted Dibiase was going to be joining us. We had another good laugh about it, and then Todd pulled out his cell phone and started dialing a number. This is what his conversation (one sided) was like...
"Hey man, what's up?"
...
"Hey do you still keep in contact with Ted Dibiase?"
...
"oh okay, I see?"
...
"well okay. yeah just give me a call if you can get in contact with him."
Dead serious. Todd knows Ted Dibiase, and he had called his brother, because he works in local media and his brother (up until a few years ago) has kept in contact with the Million Dollar Man! Turns out, that Ted has taken his act on the road...more specifically to churches. He speaks at chruches and other church organizations all over america and he's booked full. I checked. Also, Ted is from St. Louis and got his wrestling career started here. There is a very, very slim chance that we might actually get Ted Dibiase to golf with us. You can imagine our initial reaction to all of this...we were like little kids dreaming of Christmas morn.' Ted is scheduled to be in Minnesota during the golf tournament, but we are hoping for the best.
