This Just In

If you order an Italian BMT w/ extra cheese and a drink/chips combo from Subway, your total will be $6.66 - clearly this is proof that Subway Jared is the anti-christ.

In relation to that...

I had $0.94 left on a Subway giftcard I got for my Bday. When I handed the cashier my giftcard, he ran it but was confused about how to then cash out the remainder of the bill. He asked for help from a fellow employee and all was taken care of. He finished the cash out and the receipt printed and as he handed it to me. Then it dawned on him as the cash register popped open that he had not run my debit card to pay for the rest of the meal. He looked at his machine, looked at me, looked at the card in my hand, looked back at the machine... I could tell that the wheels were really turning (more like grinding) in his head. He slowly closed the drawer and said, "you know what? whatever, it's good." And then he made gestures for me to leave. lol.

That whole encounter reminds me of one of the only Beavis and Butthead cartoons I ever saw.

What Would You Do With 100 Extra Dollars?

-or- what would you do if you were me?

I have recently been the benefactor of some greedy, California lawyer's class action lawsuit against Toyota. I won't go into the details, but because of a bit of false advertising regarding horsepower and torque I recieved a $100 check...my share of the settlement. So here are my ideas about what I might do with the money.

1. send $100 extra on my next car payment since toyota is gouging me anyway.

2. purchase another Gig of RAM for my iMac pushing it to 2.o

3. save it so I can buy a Nintendo Wii when it becomes available.

4. new cell phone

5. many new shirts at a thrift store

6. a few new shirts at Express for MEN

7. World of Warcraft the Burning Crusade + 6 months prepaid subscription!!!!!!

8. use it for a vacation fund - probably snowboarding.

9. Take the members of These People are Crazy the Podcast out for bowling and a steak dinner (since I have no girlfriend).

10. Xmas gifts are on Toyota this year!

11. SAVE IT!

For once I am grateful for those greedy sharks. Of course if he could offer a suggestion it would be:

12. Give it to me!

The Fridge

I know that so many of you have been wondering what our fridge looks like on the inside. It is quite an awesome sight. When I see the inside of other peoples' fridges I am concerned. I see bottles of ketchup, half empty 2-liter bottles of diet soda, scattered bags of lunch meat, and yesterdays leftover casserole. So I thought everyone would be enlightened by seeing how a fridge should be organized.

1. Mountain Dew - We always try to keep a steady supply of the sweet nectar of the gods. (also see #4)

2. Sprite - You'll often find different varieties of soda that are typically not drank by Lucas or myself. We have them b/c they are left over from church events and parties and that type of thing.

3. Pibb Xtra - see #2

4. Christmas Cola (Coca Cola Classic) - being that it is drawing near the Xmas season and the coke tastes better at Xmas, this will probabably be the drink of choice for most situations. However, when it is any normal season, this rather large supply of Coke might actually be a rather large supply of Mountain Dew. The most common explanation for the fluctuation in the preferred drink is one of them is usually on sale while the other is not.

5. Diet Coke/Black Cherry Vanilla Coke - The Black Cherry Vanilla Coke is only paid for by Lucas and is only drank in times of shortage (and Nick drank one yesterday). We have diet coke for people who like fake sugar and also for Julie, whenever she comes to visit.

6. Leftovers. Usually leftovers are from restaurants. The exception being if I've recently made my "World Famous" tacos. That is why you also see sour cream.

7. Chicken Wings. Yes occasionally we do cook and that bowl of wings is about 1hr from being fried and glazed in a wonderful buffalo sauce. They are commonly known as my "World Famous" wings.

8. Water. Yes we do drink this.

9. Milk. Mmmm breakfast. Although I prefer 2%, I will not tolerate Luc's desire to drink white water. We settle on 1%.

10. Condiments. All the side shelves are full of condiments. One thing you will NOT find in our fridge is ketchup. That belongs in the pantry.

11. Thumbs Up. Such a great expression for such a great fridge.

12. Knobs of some sort. No idea what they do.

13. Two Cartons of Eggs. We have two b/c I was needing eggs for Revenge bread and when I called Lucas to ask if we had any, he said no. But we did. We also have two electric mixers for the same reason.

Well I hope you enjoyed the tour and I hope you've been inspired to make your fridge something you enjoy opening every single day.

Revenge Bread (Day 6)

Okay so the instructions for day 6 are to simply "mash the bag." The only problem is that I didn't "feed" the bag. On day 5 you are supposed to add 1c of flour, 1c of sugar, and 1c of milk. When I got home from work, I opened our fridge and saw some milk. There may have been enough for 1c, but I never gave it a shot b/c the 'sell by' date was Oct. 15th. So I've had this bag of batter fermenting (rotting) in my house for a few days now and I'm not willing to risk adding spoiled milk, so I just go to bed.

Well I wake up and I feel guilty that the friendship bread is about to become the thrown-out bread so I quickly add 1c of flour and 1c of sugar. On my way to work I purchase a small container of milk and add it. So now it's GUILT Bread. Some people in the office joked that young women should be given a starter bag of Revenge Bread to determine whether or not they were ready to have a child. Well I know I'm not ready. The only living thing in our house (besides myself and Lucas) is the mold growing on the leftover spaghetti, and our only house plant is plastic!

I just hope the whole scheduling of making this bread has a little bit of breathing room.

Friendship Bread

On Friday of last week, I walked into my office and was surprised to find a bag of gunk placed in the middle of my desk. On top of the bag was a piece of paper entitled: Amish Friendship Bread.

I recently baked ONE thing and somebody got the impression that I enjoyed baking...therefore I was given a recipie and "starter bag" of Friendship Bread. This is no simple recipie. It takes a total of 10 days (yes, 10) to make and like the Song the Never Ends, you simply cannot stop making this stuff. If you do you will suffer a fate only truly known by the breakers of chain-mail and email forwards.

You start w/ a bag of batter and over 10 days you basically mash the bag and let out the air. You let out the air b/c at room temp. this batter "ferments" (rots) and must be relieved of excess air. On day 5 you add some simple ingredients and keep mashing. On day 10, you divide up the batter into 4 starter bags and use one to actually make the bread. The bread is quite good and the ultimate idea is to share the other starter bags w/ someone else and pass it all along. Of course only the Amish know how to originate a starter bag, so if you give it all away (or throw it all away) you are ending the cycle.

I'm going to try it out, but I highly recommend the Amish rename this recipie. It shouldn't be called friendship bread b/c it is a horrible friendship gift. If you want to be a real friend, just give me a loaf of the stuff and don't bother me with the rest. In fact, giving away this recipie is basically saying, "here, baby-sit this bag of crap for 10 days...friend." No no no, a real friend would never pass this along but would do his or her friends a favor by taking them out for ice cream or coffee.

They should call it Aquaintance Bread, or Revenge Bread. Yes, Revenge Bread...that sounds good. Didn't like the project you were assigned at work? Put some Revenge Bread in the boss's inbox. Didn't appreciate the snotty remark by the neighbor's kid? You've got 4 starter bags of Revenge Bread with their name on it. When you want to get someone back, why not just hand em a bag of batter and 10 days of work.

Oh well, I just hope I can go a few more days without messing the whole thing up. If you live close, see me next week for a piece of really good bread. If I'm out of bread, I may just give you a bag of batter. :)
